Approval of WYD 08 Venues and Activities
In late 2006, the NSW Government passed the World Youth Day Act 2006 (the Act) which established the World Youth Day Coordination Authority (WYDCA). The principal function of WYDCA is to develop policies, strategies and plans for the delivery of, and to coordinate and manage the delivery of, integrated Government services for World Youth Day events.
The Act enables WYDCA to approve temporary venues associated with WYD events. WYDCA has prepared an Applications Manual to provide:
- a comprehensive framework for WYDCA to exercise its approval functions under the Act;
- a streamlined and efficient assessment process;
- a single reference document for seeking approval under the Act; and
- policies and processes to ensure consistent and proper regard for safety, environmental amenity and impacts on the local and wider community.
The WYDCA Applications Manual was prepared in consultation with key stakeholders; including government agencies, local government authorities and WYD 2008.
The Applications Manual covers all declared WYD 2008 activities in NSW.
Assessment of applications will consider the likely impacts of the proposals including environmental impacts on the natural and built environment, social impacts, economic impacts and impacts on locality and public interest.
