Residents in Centennial Park area
Randwick Racecourse and Centennial Park are key venues for World Youth Day with about 225,000 people expected at the racecourse on Saturday 19 July for an evening vigil with the Pope, with a further 90,000 expected at Centennial Park. The Final Mass on Sunday 20 July is expected to attract a crowd of 500,000 people across both the racecourse and Centennial Park.
On Saturday 19 July and Sunday 20 July, Centennial Park will be closed to non-event vehicles. It will be used as a venue to view the Evening Vigil with the Pope from 7pm to 9pm, with all Vigil participants required to exit Centennial Park shortly thereafter.
On Sunday 20 July, pedestrian access into the park is via Robertson Road and Musgrave Avenue gates only. People are expected to be queuing outside the gates before they open at 6am on Sunday morning.
Centennial Park will remain open to the public on both days but horse riding will not be permitted during this event weekend. Dog walking, both on and off-leash will be allowed in designated areas.
A number of roads leading into Centennial Park and Moore Park will be closed over Saturday 19 July and Sunday 20 July, including Anzac Parade between Moore Park and Alison Road, Dacey Avenue (eastbound) between South Dowling Street and Anzac Parade, Cleveland Street between South Dowling Street and Anzac Parade, and South Dowling Street between Cleveland Street and Flinders Street.
As a result of these road closures, there will be changes to bus routes operating from Randwick via Alison Road. Information is available via the Eastern Suburbs bus changes webpage. For specific route information, visit the Transport InfoLine website.
A special event parking scheme will be implemented in the Eastern Suburbs, including Centennial Park, Moore Park and Queens Park, on Friday 18 July, Saturday 19 July and Sunday 20 July.
