Safety and Security

Australia and Sydney are safe places to visit and we are confident you will have a safe and secure time during WYD08. The following information has been prepared to assist you with your personal safety during the event.

Emergency

Safety imageIn an emergency dial 000 (triple zero). This is a free call from any phone.  Interpreter services can be made available if required.

  1. The person answering the 000 call will ask you need either Police, Fire Brigade or Ambulance.
  2. Tell this person which emergency service you need (Police, Ambulance or Fire Brigade).
  3. This person will immediately transfer you to the emergency service you requested.
  4. The emergency service operator will ask you a series of questions relating to your emergency, including the address of the emergency. This means the street name and the closest cross street.
  5. Ensure you know the specific location of the patient or emergency site prior to ringing.  This will get help to you faster.
  6. They will send an emergency vehicle to the address you gave for the emergency.

It is important that you remain calm and do not hang up the phone until the emergency service telephone operator has got all the information they need.

In the event of a medical emergency, you may be given instructions by the ambulance emergency operator about how you can help the patient while an ambulance is on its way.

Follow the instructions provided by the operator and answer all questions.
