As with any major event, additional security measures will be in place to ensure the safety of WYD08 participants and the wider community. 

Some of these measures, such as bag checks and traffic diversions, may result in delays.  We regret any inconvenience, but ask for your patience.

Bag Checks

Police will be present at all WYD08 venues.  It is a condition of entry that you make your bag available for checking. Please be ready to have your bags checked on entry.  Allow plenty of time for travel and getting into events.

Items Banned at Events

For safety reasons, some items have been banned from WYD08 events.  Bags will be checked prior to entry and any banned items in your possession will be confiscated.  Banned items include:

• glass bottles or other glass containers 
• alcohol
• devices capable of causing a disturbance (horns, lasers etc) unless used by animators
• obscene or offensive material and/or clothing
• animals including pets of any kind unless used specifically to aid with a disability or used by the NSW police
• signs (commercial, offensive or vulgar etc) and items with corporate banding used to attract attention
• tents
• weapons
• controlled substances or illegal drugs
• fireworks.
