Transport and Traffic
Transport and traffic in Sydney during WYD08
| The volume of visitors to Sydney for World Youth Day 2008 events (15-20 July 2008) will require changes to Sydney's transport and traffic arrangements during this time. |
Travellers may experience delays during World Youth Day 2008 events and we appreciate your patience.
For train, bus and ferry timetables, trip planning and other public transport service information visit www.131500.info or call the Transport Infoline on 131 500.
Visit the NSW Ministry of Transport website for information on bus lane hours of operation, traffic changes and bus movement changes.
Regular commuters
Train services will be maintained for morning and afternoon commuter peaks.
Regular public transport commuters will be asked to plan their travel to arrive in the city between 7am and 10am and leave the city between 4pm and 7pm to minimise delays and inconvenience. Similarly, event participants will be asked to travel outside these times.
Transport information for World Youth Day is provided in three brochures:
Wanting to participate in World Youth Day events? Then read the World Youth Day general public transport guide.
If you are not participating in World Youth Day events, read the public transport guide for non-participants.
If you have a disability, please read the Guide to Transport and Government Services for People with a Disability.
These guides are also available from most CityRail stations, Sydney Buses TransitShops, Sydney Ferries' wharves and major RTA Motor Registry Offices in the CBD. Further information on public transport is also available via the Transport InfoLine website or by calling 131 500.
People attending WYD08 events should leave their cars at home, catch public transport or walk. Special event clearways (tow-away areas) will be in force. For detailed traffic information, visit the Special Events page on the RTA website or call the traffic information line on 132 701.
If you are not attending WYD08 events, you may wish to avoid the CBD altogether. The RTA has produced a series of interactive flyover maps showing ways to avoid the road closures during WYD08 events.
WYD08 participants
Registered WYD08 participants should refer to the World Youth Day 2008 Pilgrim Transport Guide in their registration packs or download a copy from www.wyd2008.org. (This will be available on-line soon.).
