Pilgrim Passport
Conditions of Travel
Registered participants will be issued with a "Pilgrim Passport" which includes free travel on suburban trains and most bus services (both private and Government buses). The boundaries for suburban train services are Bondi Junction, Berowra, Carlingford, Richmond, Emu Plains, Macarthur, Waterfall and Cronulla.
Simply wear your Pilgrim Passport around your neck and you will be able to travel on the trains and buses.
For registration package A and B, travel is valid from Monday 14 July to Monday 21 July inclusive.
For registration package C, travel is valid from Saturday 19 July to Monday 21 July inclusive.
Travelling from intercity areas
Your Pilgrim Passport is not valid for travel on intercity train services on the CityRail network. If you are travelling from intercity lines (Blue Mountains, Newcastle & Central Coast, South Coast and Southern Highlands you will need to purchase a separate train ticket for travel to the nearest boundary railway station on that line and then continue your journey using your Pilgrim Passport to the City. The boundary railway stations are:
- Blue Mountains train line - Emu Plains Station
- Newcastle and Central Coast - Berowra Station
- South Coast - Waterfall Station
- Southern Highlands - Macarthur Station
Click here for a map that shows the boundary for the Pilgrim Passport.
If you are travelling from intercity railway stations each day the most economical ticket to purchase is the 7 Day RailPass ticket. You can buy a RailPass on any day of the week and then use it for seven consecutive days between two designated railway stations (ie. the station closest to where you are staying to the boundary station). These are available from CityRail ticket offices.
You must be in possession of a valid ticket when travelling on public transport services.
Please note there are no additional intercity train services scheduled for WYD08. If you are travelling from intercity railway stations to the City, please travel after 9am.
Sightseeing
If you are sightseeing outside of the boundary area during WYD08, for example to the Blue Mountains, you must purchase a separate return train or bus ticket from the boundary railway station to your destination railway station.
